The Skins were a couple breaks away from being 2-14, too.

The offensive line had no depth last year, especially once Samuels went down, and the running game sucked. Campbell deserved better.

8-9 is probably generous, although it would be considered decent. But semantics aside, I just can't see McNabb making that much of a difference at this point in his career on a really bad team (I also don't think Shanahan's presence makes that much of a difference either, at least with the current roster). It's not like Favre going to a 10-win team already loaded with talent. The 'Skins have a lot of holes to fill, and McNabb (and Shanahan) can only do so much.

8 or 9 wins is decent, but it's pretty apparent by making a move like this that Shanahan is not planning on a couple of rebuilding years. He wants to win now and win big. I don't know that McNabb has the weapons around him to allow for a Redskins playoff team this year.

Yep, that's my (real) first thought.

    NFC East 2010

    Cowboys 11-5
    Giants 10-6
    Eagles 8-8
    Redskins 7-9

The Redskins aren't a really bad team. Before the McNabb trade, they were hovering somewhere between "mediocre with no hopes of making the playoffs" and "shit, the Bills might be better."

The offensive line should be better. Devin Thomas isn't horrible. Fred Davis and Chris Cooley are good receiving tight ends.

The defense is actually good, particularly if Orakpo takes another step forward.

How much better does McNabb make the Redskins? I don't know. But at least it makes me hopeful that the Skins won't tumble through another misery-filled season. Most Redskins fans seem kind of torn by this trade. They want to believe McNabb will help but remember all the past Dan Snyder "big splash" failures.

Washington is a bigger market, but I think you can argue that Buffalo is closer to playoff contention, especially if it added a competent QB like McNabb.

Then again, maybe Donovan just wants to pull a Favre and stick it to Philly twice a year.

That might be a little easier if the 'Skins had a great RB, a very good OL and a few young, talented receivers. They have none of that.

What's better about the O-line? They have a new coaching staff. And besides that...? The line is absurdly terrible. The fact they've discussed any name that isn't an o-lineman with that 4th pick is loony. And Jason Campbell put up some damn good numbers last year for a guy who often finished his throws not by stepping in with his lead foot, but instead, on his back.

Well, since Vick isn't even an NFL QB . . .

I don't know. The AFC East is nearly as tough as its NFC counterpart, and it's hard to see Buffalo making the leap over the Pats or the Jets, particularly with the way the Jets have improved this offseason. The Dolphins aren't half bad either.
