This is the only thing that makes this make any sense - I bet it's true.

But see, therein lies the Redskins main problem. They are the Mets of the NFL. They refuse to have any patience. Ever. I absolutely believe John Beck would be a better option for the Redskins next year, but let's say he's not. Sit on it for a year. Try to win with the running game. Tell yourself, and your fanbase, that you know it's difficult, but you have a long-term plan. You're going to find a 10-year solution, not make a rash decision that screws up your cap so bad, you'll lose good young players down the road because you're still paying McNabb a chunk of that $40 million pro-rated over those years.

And if you can't bear to have patience, whisper to Tom Brady's agent that you'll give him $60 million guaranteed, or whisper to Vick's agent that he'll get $25 million. Hell, even giving Kyle Orton a one-year deal worth $18 million is smarter than giving McNabb $40 million.

This is like freaking out and giving Jason Bay a ton of money or Oliver Perez $36 million because "We have to do something!"

Sometimes in the NFL, not doing something is exactly the right move. You get a fifth round pick back if McNabb walks after the year anyway. Get some cap space, acquire some draft picks, build it up slowly. Synder has never had the stomach for that, though.

Plenty of delusional Skins fans on local radio who are convinced that giving an aging QB who was benched in his last game $40 million guaranteed sets the team up perfectly to fill its real needs.

I guess Snyder got tired of all the publicity Jerry Jones was getting. No better way to steal the thunder of an overspending, personnel-ignorant egomaniac than to show him how it's really done. What a joke this franchise is.

I don't necessarily agree with you, DD, but every time I try to think of a counter argument, I black out. Then I come to and remember this is the Redskins and NOTHING MAKES SENSE ANYMORE!!!!

    Goddammit.

    57 percent completions.
    More INTs than TDs.
    34 years old.
    76.0 QB rating.

    $40 million guaranteed.

    Goddammit.

But now that the franchise has thrown away $40 million, it can concentrate on what it really needs!

Damn, it's hard not to like McNabb, though. Sure, he puts 6 of every 10 throws in the ground, but he seems like a nice fella.

I'm easy to like, too. You want me out there as your QB?

They're bring Sonny back as his backup. Four years, 25 million. But only 17 of it guaranteed.

Riggo is negotiating his deal. Russ Grimm coming back, too. To play.

Of course not. Pretty sure I've been crystal clear on that.

Two separate points. One: Terrible deal. Two: McNabb seems like a nice guy.

I am NOT looking forward to this game tonight.

As mentioned in the other McNabb thread, his nice-guy status has caused him plenty of trouble during his career. Then again, in tonight's game, I hope he completely outplays the opposing subhuman POS on the Eagles.

Maybe the Redskins should have given Vick $40 million.
