That said, Grossman's 2006 was underrated. There were several games that season that were losses if not for his performance, including the first playoff game.

Granted, he crapped the bed with the light on in about half-a-dozen other games in ways worse than I would have thought it was possible for a professional quarterback to achieve.

    I'm disregarding you, Kilroy.

Rick is correct in that when Good Rex showed up that season, he was very, very good. The trick is keeping Bad Rex from making an appearance.

Look at this whole story -- McNabb traded for-Shanahan tries to rebuild McNabb-McNabb gets benched-McNabb gets extension-McNabb gets benched again and there are only two possible conclusions. One is that Shanahan has gone schizo, and while I think he's nuts, I don't think he's nuts in that clinical sense. The other, obviously, is that two people are making contradictory decisions. Since the other person is Snyder, it is logical to conclude that Shanny's days are already numbered at Redskins Park.

I didn't know John Feinstein was lurking on here.

If it pleases the court, provide some proof that Shanahan hates black QBs.

Grossman didn't single-handedly get the Bears to the Super Bowl. He had a little help from Kyle Orton and the defense.

FYP. Kyle Orton didn't play that season. Griese was the backup and played some garbage time, but it was all Sexy Rexy for the offense.

Grossman was nearly flawless and had some huge games for the first six weeks. Then they suffered their first loss, to the Dolphins of all fucking teams and Grossman was awful. After that, it seemed like all his confidence vanished. He was a train wreck the second half of the season. And every Bears fan who pays attention (and any NFL fan, for that matter) knew the Bears were fucked in the Super Bowl.

Step 1: Predict doom with 100% certainty
Step 2: Ignore the times you are wrong
Step 3: Crow about the times you are right.

The Bears had a chance to win that game. Not a great chance, but it was possible.

No, it wasn't. Even my Colts fanboi looser self had no worries, even after the Hester KO return, even after Grossman threw a TD pass. Especially as the rain came down, I knew that Rex "Do I Really Have to Prepare for This Game" Grossman would find some way to screw things up, and ensure he would always be warmly welcomed back to his native Hoosier state.

Grossman is what happens to lot of NFL QBs -- he's got the tools to dominate his competition in high school and college, but doesn't work enough or have the mental attitude to make the leap to become a consistent NFL QB, especially once he got his first sense that he couldn't just show up and kick ass anymore. Grossman is throwing like he did in high school, which is a tribute to how talented he was then, and a knock on how much he's regressed in the NFL.

I'd say Grossman's height works against him more than his attitude. He's 5-10 if he's anything, and he has a lot of trouble seeing over the lines to read the field.

That was a five-point game in the fourth quarter. It would have taken some of Lovie's signature bullshit bounces and luck to win against a superior team, but it was possible.
