The accepted wisdom for 50 years has been the rest of the Arab world doesn't give a shit about Palestinians except as an outlet for popular anger.

UN: 'Convincing information' sexual violence committed against hostages in Gaza

A UN team says there is "convincing information" that hostages held in Gaza have been subjected to sexual violence including rape and sexualised torture.

There were grounds to suspect the abuse was still ongoing, the UN said.

The UN team also found "reasonable grounds to believe" sexual violence, including gang rape, took place when Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October.

The UN needs to keep these findings in mind when it calls for a ceasefire. More importantly, this is a reminder of one reason why Hamas keeps playing games to avoid releasing all of the hostages. They don't want the world to see and hear from those survivors of sexual violence.

"A new dawn has broken, has it not?"

That said, the Tories lost 178 in that 1997 election, while Labour ended up on 418. I don't think it's gonna be quite that good, but on the other hand, John Major didn't pull half the shit that BoJo/Truss/Sunak have over the last five years. They'll also be working from new constituency boundaries, which are expected to put a couple more seats in the more conservative parts of southern England and less in the North, or Scotland or Wales.

Northern Ireland has 18 seats in a body of 650, which makes its influence on Parliament comparable to that of New Jersey (12 House seats in 435).

Unless things really go to shit for Labour a la Neal Kinnock, Keir Starmer is gonna be a prime minister, and he certainly fits the role. He's already a Sir (for being a public prosecutor).

Biden’s New Doomsday Option Against Israeli Settlers

On February 1, Joe Biden took the biggest step any U.S. president has ever taken against Israel’s settler movement. He issued an executive order “imposing certain sanctions on persons undermining peace, security, and stability in the West Bank” and used this new authority to punish four Israeli settlers for violence against Palestinians and Israeli peace activists. But because the president’s directive dealt with the West Bank and not the war in Gaza, and was initially applied to only a handful of people, it was largely overlooked—or cast by critics as a symbolic sop to disaffected Arab and Muslim voters in places like Michigan.

Biden purportedly will announce a plan to set up a port on coastal Gaza to facilitate aid dispersal.
    1. Talk about an immediate terrorist target.
    2. I'm sure the Iranians will not be too thrilled with American troops coming into close contact with Hamas fighters.
It's the least worst option, I suppose, given Israeli intransigence, but it also sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Yes, they all love abortion. They're not welcome unless they do. The anti-Semites are gaining an increasing foothold with "progressives," currently the most influential group in the Democratic Party.

I can just see you gnashing your teeth when you type such a response. Let's me know my comments bother you, and we both know why.

I'm afraid you don't know why.

I know you. Granted: It's been a minute. But we've worked together. I know 100 percent that you have worked with *gasp* liberals! who have treated you with the respect and love of a valued co-worker. And you come on here and broad-brush those liberals and Democrats with your half-assed ANTI-SEMETIC! jabs, and it pissed me off.

Also: I know you're not an idiot. But you're unable to differentiate between, "criticism of Israel, the political state," and "OMG! They hate Jews!" It's as dumb as a Jerry L. Reed one-word headline.
