Maybe. I kept seeing rain/mist/fog. Bad visibility. Rugged terrain. Brought back some bad memories.

Let's wait for Sir Occam to scratch his whiskers before we tumble into an all-out Middle Eastern war.

Is there a way to share these NYT articles? I run into the paywall most of the time when people link to them. I know that WaPo has a "share" option.

    Try this.

    The Campus Protesters Explain Themselves

There's a little gift-wrapped "Share full article" icon at the top of every story - even podcasts - for subscribers.

It’s not hard at all to tell what it looks like. 99 and 44/100ths chance of special disorientation. The leading cause of helicopter accidents.

I wasn't talking about a cause of crash.

At the moment I posted that (not the day after, when you are responding) there were still conflicting reports out about exactly what had happened. ... and whether the passengers were alive and waiting to be rescued. Which is what I was pointing out. The Iranian News Agency was quoting an Iranian VP saying that they had communicated with two of the passengers and that it wasn't of a serious nature, when I posted that. Over several hours, it went back and forth from "hard landing" to "crash," to "definitely dead" to "communicating with them," depending on what you were reading.

Iranian VP Confirms Contact with Passengers of President Raisi's Helicopter

IP- Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri has confirmed that contact has been established with two passengers who were onboard President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter when it crash-landed in northwestern Iran.

Iran Press/ Iran news: "We have been in communication with two individuals who were passengers on the helicopter multiple times. It appears that the incident is not of a serious nature," Mansouri stated.

Mansouri explained that among the three helicopters in the convoy, radio contact was lost with the one carrying President Raisi. However, contact has been successfully made with "one of the passengers and a crew member." He expressed optimism that the accident was not severe based on the communication received.
