Just saw a Wall Street Journal push notification that Iran helped plan the attack and gave the green light to proceed at a meeting last Monday. That seems less than good.

It's almost as if Hamas planned this to derail a Saudi peace deal.

 

I'm seeing a fair bit of criticism about the sourcing on that WSJ piece. It's hard to envision Iran having no role at all, but I worry that overstating Iran's role in all this plays into the hands of those agitating for war with Iran.

 

I wouldn’t. Nor would I try to explain to an average Palestinian person how the horror they’re about to endure, even more so than usual, is their own fault for empowering Hamas.

Just read the story.

The sourcing is pretty thin, and of course, anonymous. Official denials begin in the third graf.

So the usual contradictory dispatch from the Middle East.

That said, Iran has been aiding and abetting Hamas and Hezbollah et al for years.

But I'd guess the timing had as much to do with the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur war as anything.
