Liberal arts professors have an outsized influence on campus politics because the the sciences and grad schools don't care.

The president has to deal with that dynamic and people who want to give tens of million dollars on their terms. Add in dealing with Cambridge, Boston, and the state. It's not some state school where the politicians are going to give them a break.
