Memory Loss. Seriously. It's happening to me.

    Do you take any medications?

I’m 47, and was on prescription stomach medicine (pantoprazole) for a few years when this kind of thing started happening to me.

Had long heard chatter that proton-pump inhibitors, which pantoprazole is, had been linked to cognitive decline. My doc confirmed, and after an endoscopy, took me off the med.

I’ve been gradually improving ever since.

I have noticed this as well. I'm also 47, and I'll have some issues on recall on things that I should know off the top of my head. Then again, I can tell you exactly what happened late in an Idaho State-NAU basketball game from 2000 as well. So it ebbs and flows.

Thanks for your experiences and thoughts on this.

    It’s really puzzling to me.

I don’t drink, no meds, exercise a lot. I was expecting my knees to go (and they have) but not my brain at this stage.

Of course, when I was out of town last weekend, in a legal state for sports betting, I was as sharp as a tack. :)

Beat me to it. I was going to say that I can't remember what I had for dinner Saturday night but I remember a savage basketball beat I took in the Patriot League 20 years ago. Double-digit dog fails to close it out in regulation and gets doors blown off in OT. Core memory.

I’m rooting for it just being stress. I generally have an above average memory and am not flighty at all. A couple of months ago when I was going through a very stressful time, for about a couple of weeks, I was constantly misplacing my phone and my keys. I had trouble recalling names of relatives and of actors and songs. I would go out to run a particular errand and then come home realizing I’d forgotten to do it. I put glasses in the fridge and food that was supposed to go in the fridge in the cabinet instead. Just when I was starting to get worried about myself, I realized it might be stress causing it. Sure enough, things calmed down - and I was cognizant of it now - and it passed. Hope the same happens for you.

I hope it’s just stress. This sounds like exactly me.

I’m noticing it a lot too.

I’m trying to be selective about it. If I forget assholes, that’s just fine.

Sometimes I get off the couch to go yell at the neighborhood kids, but on the way to the porch I forget why I was so cranky. Then, I see them there in my yard and remember.

I find myself starting to put something away, say, in the refrigerator that should just go in a kitchen cabinet.

I almost poured a soft drink into the cats' food bowl. Always forgetting whether I've clocked in and/or out at work (the only bleeping job that ever made me punch a time clock).

Just 30 minutes ago I tore the wrapper off a piece of candy . . . and threw the candy away while I'm holding the wrapper.

In Russia, the candy throws you away.
