Men's suit, pants question -- cuffs or no cuffs?

They are. No slight to the people posting about them, but I always considered their stuff lower to medium quality. I've walked around the stores once or twice and haven't been impressed by what I saw.

I'm not sure whether cuffs or no cuffs matter on this baby.

The quality is a notch below Brooks Brothers, similar look. I've heard the suits described as "workhorse suits," meaning they're OK for average suit jobs, not something you'd wear to an executive interview. They're conservatively cut, but like all suits in that price range, fused (glued). You go to Brooks Brothers and the shoes are made by Alden (Mass.) or Peal (England), for the most part. JAB will special-order Allen-Edmonds (Wis.), but in stock will be Johnston & Murphy and Cole-Haan, both for the most part now made quite cheaply overseas. Respectable stuff, but a notch below. You can feel it in their dress shirts -- actually, Land's End will be cheaper and yet better made than JAB, as the shirt collars are sewn, not glued.

I call them subway suits. No sense knocking around on the # 4 train with a $2000 suit.

I tell you what though I would put the Banks Signiture Gold suit ( their high end ) up against Hickey Freeman suits at a lot higher price. For $700 bucks you are going to get a lot of features that the HF will not give you at $1400. HF makes you pay extra for lined trousers that Banks includes.

The key again though is buy on the sale and get to know a salemen to steer you.

The Hickey-Freeman suits are full-canvas, though. You can pick one up at Saks Off Fifth (outlet) or Century 21 for $550 if you are patient.

Here's a store locator for Off-5th, which is the clearance outlet for Saks. As M. Ridgeway says, you can find wonderful, deeply discounted high(er)-end stuff there. The trick is to be patient enough to visit the store frequently. They churn a lot of merchandise, and you won't always find exactly what you're looking for on the first visit. You will, however, save hundreds and hundreds of dollars. You'll get an additional 10% off on your first purchase if you sign up for a Saks credit card. Thereafter, you'll get notices and coupons for their upcoming special sales.

To expand on the last post...
I wore a suit 4-times last year. There were two funerals and two banquets. The two funerals had me in a black suit. The two banquets had me in a kilt.

I will be breaking out the kilt for an upcoming banquet in June.

I knew it! Now all we need is a pic of you with a plateful of haggis ... um, okay, so that's not such an appetizing idea.

A suite? You mean like a set of matching furniture? :D

Michael Stipe wore a suit just like that to my brother's wedding. My brother married a woman that works for REM.
