Re: Best Imus take I've read

It's incredible to me how 30 million people in this country somehow collectively wear the yoke of responsibility for the creation of a 50 Cent, who was an obscure run of the mill mixtape MC from Queens, rather than the handful of record companies that give people of his ilk their platform, as the sons and daughters of the Don Imus' of the world cheer them on MTV Spring Break and catapult 50 to stardom.

And somehow blacks have to for the answer for this whenever a Don Imus or someone else says something out of character.

    Great job Jason.

Hey welcome back big chee. Must be a busy week over at SOHH.com

Interesting spin that you put on things - gansta rappers are writing racist and sexist lyrics because that is what their white surburban kids market demands.

Do I have your position correct?

I disagree -- Don Imus didn't say anything out of character. In fact, he was perfectly in character when he said what he said. Which is why CBS, MSNBC and the show sponsors are all hypocrites -- they knew who and what Don Imus was and is and didn't give a damn for 40 years.

It was only until they got held hostage by the whiny assholes in the Al Sharpton crowd that they decided to show us all how enlightened they are.

I think Phil Mushnick has the best take on this entire situation today when he writes about all the hypocrisy involved here.

Tell me, if some shock jock threw a racial and sexist comment torward your daughter and it got broadcast nationally, would you be pissed, yes or no? One-word answer here.

Put it this way, if I mention the groups Poor Righteous Teachers, Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, X-Clan and other positive rappers (outside of the anomaly called PE)you'd have no idea who they are. But there was a time when they were just as popular as any other gangsta rapper. But that was a time when hip hop was more balanced. Once those corporate execs saw middle America fascination with gangsta rap, hip hop became the one sided trash it is now. And for some reason, blacks should be held responsible for a struggling MC that obtains the financial backing of Viacom and other media outlets.

I'm just amazed at peoples penchant for focusing on the puppets rather than the puppeteers.

It's unclear whether the racial slurs happened at the Duke party, in which case, I can see where maybe after that an incident happened that led to this and then that.

The Rutgers women did nothing to merit that comment. And they stayed silent for a long time before they spoke out.

I'm not sure how anyone could possibly lump Duke lacrosse in with the Rutgers women.

Simple -- it is the way both stories have been covered by the media and how the "victims" in both cases are being portrayed.

I think we are saying the same thing then. When Al Sharpton and Jesse were paying a visit to Sumner Redstone ( owner of both Viacom and CBS ) I wonder if they asked him to shut down the racist and sexist stuff that appears on BET and MTV.

I'll ask again, when does the liberal witch hunt gang show up at Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton's offices and demand their resignations or firings for their racist rants against the Duke lacrosse players? When is Al Sharpton forced to resign for referring to any and all white people who disagree with him as crackers? When was the Reverand Jesse Jackson forced to resign for his "new york is a hymie-town" remarks?

    I'm just wondering.

What would they resign from? Seriously?

They were probably being bought off and offered jobs for their family and friends.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. They're not radio hosts or elected officials. I'm not sure they can resign from a damned thing. And as long as the media has them on speed dial, they'll show up whenever there's a racial issue.
