Dick, the guy might be a bust. Lots of high draft choices are.

But, these guys are already starting to lean towards "bust" now that they know he is gay, when they previously thought he was a prospect.

No one wants to draft a bust. More than that, no one wants to draft a gay guy who turns out to be a bust. They're giving themselves excuses not to draft him. Excuses they weren't giving themselves 24 hours ago.

First you claim they already knew he was gay. Now they had him as a prospect before finding out he was gay. Which is it?

(Kinda hard to keep track of the facts when you keep making them up as you go, isn't it?)

Does anyone have ESPN Insider? Kiper and McShay have been doing mock drafts and other draft notes all season. Would love to know where they had Sam in December or January, before he came out.

    Which guys?

They mocked on Feb 6 but only the first round. Both listed 4-5 others that have first round talent and could slide up due to trades. Sam isn't mentioned in either for McShay or Kiper.

The NFL player personnel types being quoted anonymously quoted by SI and others.

Sure they knew. Did you read the where his agents kept getting asked if he had a girlfriend?

And, their draft assessments surely took this into consideration. But, with him not out, no one had to defend themselves proactively for not drafting him.

Now that he's out, they're all looking for excuses to not draft him, and making sure those excuses are out there, while not putting there name on it, to give themselves cover.

    There. Rounds 3-5.

I hope YF and IllMil are just as horrified if he goes Rounds 1-2 as if he goes Rounds 6-7. :)

I could buy that. That says 3-5.

I think 3-7, or not drafted, is the adjustment for Teh Gay.

NFL Draft Scout, through CBS Sports, had him rated as the No. 160 overall player.

I see that Sam was a two-star recruit coming out of high school. He had offers from Colorado State, Iowa State, and Houston, along with Missouri.

The "undersized" label has been trailing him for a very long time. It is not a post hoc rationalization.

    With a 5th-round grade, IIRC.

I do, and I just checked.

Sam hasn't been in the Top 25 on any of Kiper's "Big Boards" as far as I can tell.

    About to check McShay.
