As someone who covered this b.s. for a few years:

Everyone is going to go from rounds 3-5 in October and November. Everybody. I covered guys who couldn't back pedal without tripping over their shoe laces.

"Hey, draft guru, where do you see Clumsy McClumsyson going?"

    "Third to fifth round."

How often do straight 3-5 projected players end up in the 6th-undrafted range? What percentage of the time?

But at what point? Clearly by the Senior Bowl, everybody knew.

This distraction thing is such old man bullshit. I kept reading what a distraction Richard Sherman was during the build up to the super bowl. How'd that distraction work out?

I get the sense that a couple places rated him a third-rounder and that was what they used in the main stories. I don't think the consensus is that he's a third-round pick.

There's been talk about the NFL's concern for revenues here and if I'm not mistaken some people have mentioned the Niners as a team that might be looking at Sam positionally. Given San Francisco's reputation as a GLBT-friendly community, might that be a move they consider making to sell some tickets, spread some goodwill with a large segment of their market?

It's a fair point. The SI story last night had a scout saying 90 percent of teams already knew. I think him being gay causes him to drop a little. I think him being gay and out causes him to drop a lot.

After the story broke, he dropped 70 spots on the CBS draft board.

CBS Sports says 3 to 4 round, even after Sam caught teh gay

Of course, he went from 90th to 160th on the list, so maybe they should update the article.

That happens *all* the *fucking* time in sports analysis, and it's maddening. After the draft is over, all the fanboys will search for the highest ranking of every player their team drafted and quote it as gospel.

There's about 300 "top-100 prospects" in minor league baseball at any given time.

At least 50 percent of the time, depending on what time of year you're getting the projections.

    100%.

Especially with the NFL, where the teams control media access more than any other sport.

And, he made it clear that he's not looking to be an "activist", so he's not looking to cause any distractions.
