He wasn't great, which moved him to 3-5, but having read some stuff after it I don't believe the 7th-undrafted predictions were there even after that.

It seems like the narrative wants Sam to be a 1st round pick and if he
ends up a 5 or a 7 it's an insult and The NFL is a backwards organization.

You understand the ulterior motive of YF's hard-on about this, right?

    Is it related to marijuana?

I am not particularly following YF's lead. This is my own discussion.

    For once, no.

From what I understood, it is to expose liberals for supporting the NFL, but not the Republican Party.

Where you are drafted isn't about how likely you will succeed, but the inverse about how likely you will be a bust. It is all based on criteria like size, speed, and performance. Even if you like one guy better than another, you might take the other guy ahead of the guy you like based on value and team need.
The round a player is drafted is based on the player, the order of selection is based on the team's needs.

Given his size and speed, if he does decently at the combine, I'd love as a fanboi looser to see my Colts take him, not for anything regarding his sexuality, but because he would be able to watch and learn from Mathis for a few years before being plugged in. Or maybe plugged in on the opposite side of the 3-4 WITH Mathis, to take some of the blocking pressure off of him.

Regarding his sexuality, it would be intriguing because the Indiana legislature is considering putting on the ballot a constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality (and maybe civil unions). Back to something Dick Whitman said, the proponents, trying to counter the numbers of anti-amendment types who have been overrunning the state house in much larger numbers, brought in a truckload of black preachers for hearings yesterday.

None the less, his sexuality was either not known, or was known and was included in the assessment. If you believe it was known, then you have to believe it played no role in his assessment, either because he was in the closet, or because the folks handling the draft for various teams didn't think it was a factor/wouldn't be disruptive.

It seems pretty obvious that it was an "open secret". It also seems pretty obvious that NFL front office types aren't the most enlightened.

Now, maybe, if he hadn't come out, they would have had him listed as a mid round pick, and for "unknown reasons" he would have gone undrafted. That's always a possibility too.

Oh, that's just a side issue.

I do love the hypocrisy though. It's almost as good as Baron loving the WWE and their benevolent overlord.

As example of The NFL not wanting to be part of a media circus let's look at the
case of Tony Washington. In 2010 he played for Abilene Christian went to the Combine and did really well. Ran a 5.09 40 which is fast for an OT. Draft projections were as high as a 2 until a reporter broke the story that he had sex with his sister. Status dropped like a rock and he went undrafted. A quick Google shows he is now playing in Canada. Listed as 6'6" 310 so he has NFL size.
