    Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm guessing looking at more Federal charges and running out of money faster than he can imagine probably prompted this plea.

So will the Vick apologists admit, "My hero is one sick piece of shit after all."

    Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

I'll take the even 12 months in prison.

Upon acceptance of the plea, all crimes emanating from the factual circumstance of the plea are, heretofore, off limits for prosecution. That's called collateral estoppel.

No way the Vick apologists apologize. He now becomes a martyr.

I'm sure Rhoden will ineloquently tell us how the federal government places more worth on the lives of dogs than on African American Males.

But not if he allocutes falsely or leaves things out, right?

For example, he fails to mention, or refuses to mention, that there was gambling on the fights. He still leaves himself open for further charges, correct?

I'm thinking that trying to get the truth out of Vick, even though he has pled guilty, will be as difficult as getting him to correctly run the West Coast Offense.

The script will be written and approved and agreed to by all the parties prior to the plea in court. Court rooms aren't sport, they're theater and most times there is a script and noone ad libs, especially in a plea. Billy Martin made the quickest $250,000.00 of his career, plus expenses.

I don't think we've seen the last of Vick in the NFL. As time passes and he does his prison time, the public demeanor against him will soften and people, including the NFL, will give the guy a second chance.

Say the term turns out to be 18 months. He could get a release around 15 and spends months 13-15 in a halfway house environment. Not inconceivable he could play again as early as next year

That assumes the Falcons release him. They might keep him and sue for some of their money back, which could tie things up a lot longer.

From the Pat Forde column on ESPN:

"Today, with a pile of dead dogs and criminal charges at his doorstep, Michael Vick has no ownership of the sporting world. Worse, he has no ownership of his future, having sold that and his reputation down the river in exchange for some low-class bloodsport thrills. He's all but helpless."

Fine writing and all, good column ... but given that there is at least some racial tension in this situation is "sold down the river" the best cliche to go with? Or am I looking a little too hard at this one?
