Yeah, Vick seems like such a great fit for the Rooney family. I'm sure that a family headed by a political appointee is going to want to wade into a PR fiasco over a third-string QB when they have a guy who won 2 Super Bowls as the starter. Definitely a good call. No, make that a great call.

Again, you seem to "speak" without thinking first.

One, Tomlin grew up in the same area as Vick. That helps. Plus, I think Tomlin is the kind of no-nonsense coach Vick will need.
Two, apparently the backup QB situation in Pittsburgh is not exactly ideal.

    Could be a good fit.

I'm sure the US Ambassador to Ireland wants to deal with questions about why his team has signed a convicted dog fighter. Exactly the news Rahm Emanuel wants to hear. Even if a coach wants Vick -- and Mike Singletary does -- that coach still needs to convince ownership it is a good idea.

And you don't think Tomlin, who won a Super Bowl within the first 10 minutes of being coach of the Steelers, can do that?

Regardless, I think the Steelers COULD be a good fit. Personally, I think SF makes the most sense.

  5. Why would Vick want to go anywhere to be a backup when he can be an immediate starter, a serious contender to be a starter or a major role player for a half-dozen teams?Like the Vikings, who could be playoff contenders.

Hey Mike, wanna be Big Ben's backup?

Vick to Pittsburgh is a realistic as a jaunt to Boots' neighbor's house.

I think people underestimate the negative PR tidal wave that will come from signing him. 1) You're going to be up to your chin in protesters some of which might be handing out some not so pleasant literature to your patrons as they enter the stadium. I can only imagine the photographs they will displaying on placards. 2) You're bound to get some people who cancel season ticket orders because of signing Vick. You better cross your fingers and hope it's not a corporate account. 3) Stadium advertising could be in jeopardy if you piss off the wrong people. 4) The internal distraction from all of this could destroy a team. Most coaches are not going to want to deal with it.

One thing, though....it's not up to Vick. He may want to play for team A, but that doesn't mean team A wants him.

  8. But there ARE teams that want him. As a starter. I think he'll have some choices.
I don't think the Steelers will be among them.

They may have grown up in the same area, but Tomlin played football and William and Mary and went to graduate school at Hampton. I think that ends all similarities between the two.

It's not about them growing up next door to each other, or playing football at the same college. If you can't see that, I got nothing for ya.

OK, maybe Vick needs Tomlin, but Tomlin and the Steelers and the Rooneys and the Yinzers do not need Vick.

Plus, they still have this kid on the roster.
