Sure, the Bengals have had their share of criminals. But what they really need is protesters outside the stadium.

Someone called into The Junkies -- local morning radio show -- and said there was a Vick sighting in Northern Virginia, adding to the speculation that Vick was going to sign with the Skins...

    Junkies: Where'd you see him?
    Caller: PetSmart

    Nice.

I think you are way overestimating the actual fallout from signing him.....

    1. The protestors would be a story for exactly two days -- the first day Vick showed up for practice and the first game he played in. After that, nobody would give a rat's ass about them and once they realized that TV cameras were no longer focused on them they'd go back to harrassing hunters......

    2. Ain't nobody cancelling their tickets. A few people might threaten to, but in places like New York, Pgh, Dallas, Washington, Green Bay -- places where the waiting list for season tickets is ridiculously long and tickets are hard to come by, it wouldn't be an issue. And for every ticket cancelled, there'd be at least bought by someone who is interested in Vick joining their favorite team.

    3. See No. 2. The NFL is a prime ticket and it is a prime place to advertise and entertain -- ain't nobody giving that up because of a player who has some baggage.

    4. They said the same thing about Latrell Sprewell when he signed with the Knicks -- and they ended up in the NBA Finals. This "distraction" shit is stupid, particularly, like I said once the season gets rolling and Vick is either sitting the bench or making touchdowns.

The actual fallout from the decision to sign him will be such a non-story once it is all said and done.

The 49ers expressed lack of interest. So have the Raiders and Seahawks.

And I still don't understand why any NFL team would be interested in signing a mediocre passer as their quarterback. I could see him as a punt/kick returner.

Oakland would give up on JaMarcus Russell after two years to sign/start Michael Vick? Seriously?

I don't think even Al Davis is that nuts.

Now that Farve says he's going to remain retired, Childress would be wise to give Vick a call.

I think you're overestimating the season ticket waiting list, at least in Washington. That list is bogus. You can call right now and order season tickets. Decent seats, too, not two rows from the top. Hell, the Skins are even cold calling, asking people if they want season tickets. A good friend was NEVER on the list and just bought some last week.

Not that this has anything at all to do with the main point. Just saying.

    Agreed.

Because he is a better quarterback than about ten starters in this league at least?

Vick is like a former Cy Young winner coming off rotator cuff surgery. If you sign him, it's to just stash him at the end of your roster, maybe get him some reps. There aren't many NFL teams that have the kind of situation where he can just chill out, be a third QB, maybe a special teamer. He needs a coach who is firmly established, who can and would cut him at any time. A team with a solid veteran number 1 QB, so you're not depending on Vick, and a situation where he won't be the big story.
The way I see it, about the only team that really qualifies is the Patriots.

The way the Steelers used Kordell Stewart his first two seasons in the NFL would be the proper way, IMHO, to use Vick. Give him 10-15 touches a game either by catching it, running it or taking via a snap, but any illusions of him being your every down quarterback should be set aside.

Has anyone put a stopwatch on Vick to see his 40 time?
