After all these years, he still doesn't get it.

 

The football cult of the capital-C coach - as if the title is hereditary or military or as hard-won as a law or medical degree - encourages behavior like this.

Which is why I address them as "Mister."

 

Dang left-wing "proffs," anyway.

This is a guy who thinks military service should be a prerequisite for entering college.

 

And they believe they are to be conferred all the same honors appertaining to those titles.

The deification of Coach is one of the things that wrecked football at all levels. I was determined not to be part of that.

 

My guess is the changes were already in the works - and Gundy chose to grandstand. Wish the reporter had the goods and cited names he knew were on their way out the door.

 

For those wondering why this Gundy thread was revived, the 55-year-old had this exchange with a media member after last night's bowl loss.

 

Having hissy fits against the media is just viewed positively in a lot of communities. These guys know that.
Gundy has even said the I'm 40 tirade came to be a blessing as a recruiting tool.

 

Nobody knew who he was before that - he didn't have a calling card. And I'm sure moms loved him.

 

The kind of thing that points to the whole sport being bullshit.
