I don't work for Gannett but if I did, a layoff would be such a sweet release.

At one of my last stops, we had a sports editor who still liked to throw around that "Yeah, but what have you done for me lately?" bullshit.

"Yeah, STFU, lardass. Except for the six vacations you take every year, you've been hiding in your office for the past five years while the rest of us are doing three jobs at once now. WTF are YOU doing for US?"

The CEO speaks! Six grafs of corporate doublespeak and the usual, empty platitudes. And no mention of him, or anyone else, taking a voluntary pay cut to counter the "headwinds".

I see Reed has taken a 10% loss on the New Gannett shares he bought at $2.44 this month.

At my first stop, our pressroom guys would come out and watch whichever game we had on the small TV in our department. Good dudes. Always had a good rapport with them.

One of my uncles – who cancelled his subscription to the McClatchy paper in his market – brought this up at a family function last week.

It has flooded the healthcare wires as well. Perhaps they can translate some of this to audio so that the hearing aids can be put to good use?

Hearing aids aren't going away. Hearing aid customers aren't going away. It'll just be a different company buying those ads.

And the fact that we're talking about hearing aid ads being devastating to newspapers... we've fallen so damn far.

Don’t forget the ads for high toilet seats and bathtub door installation companies!

I still can’t believe somebody thought this was a good idea
