Riepenhoff? Wow. He is a brilliant writer. That's quite a loss.

So what are they going to do now? Hire a free-lance outdoors writer? In Wisconsin? That's crazy talk.

  2. "We thank our valued colleagues for their many contributions over the years and wish them well in their future endeavors."

    Inches from actual sincerity.
    Thanks, Liz, you soulless drone.

At least it's not Mary Jo Meisner's bloody ax.

Sounds suspiciously like the "endeavor to persevere" line from "Outlaw Josey Wales" that the old Indian, Chief Dan George, mocked. After the U.S. politician said it, the tribe members thought about what he had said for a while. Then they declared war on the United States government.

Not unlike a modern newsroom. What are Native American casinos and reservations if not buyouts and layoffs?

Mary Jo Meisner's Bloody Ax? I saw them before they hit it big. Great band.

The outdoor writer's not the wisest of cuts in a state like Wisconsin.

Especially an outdoors writer who was at MJS for, I'm guessing, two or three decades.

In my experience, those guys could normally write circles around most of the sports staff. They are genuine subject experts.

Another sad day in journalism. Happy Holidays, in advance.

A guy who preceded Bob R. in Milwaukee, the legendary Jay Reed, was one of the best newspaper writers I ever read.

For what it's worth, Pufall was indeed another buyout-ee, and he's happy he got it.

Jay Reed was a great writer and even nicer person.
