And as his mantra for Tuesday, we have.... "heeled."

Not to hijack a good bash-Mitch thread, but the Free Press is still publishing daily. The paper product is only home-delivered three days a week. But it is available daily on newstands, at stores, in boxes, at large corporations and senior centers and, if you choose, for a bit more money, it can be had in same-day mail delivery. This is saving the company "hundreds of millions of dollars." And in this atmosphere in 2009, there has not been a single layoff or buyout at the Free Press since last fall and none are planned for the rest of the year. Not a bad tradeoff. OK, please carry on with Mitch bashing!

Best thought I ever heard about going to college (rather than turn pro) was by Scotty Burrell's father when Burrell opted to go play for UConn rather than take the 1st Round baseball money; his dad said "you only get to be a kid once in your life".

So true. Then there was my cousin who told me "you've got 40 years to work, don't hurry (out of college)" so I took 8 years off for college and law school. Best times of my life.

Mitch Albom knows what he's talking about. This is man back during the '02 Stanley Cup Finals who described Raleigh, NC, as full of hillbillies. Everyone knows that they're making moonshine in RTP anyway.

Yeah, he probably interviewed a dying hillbilly once who told him all about it from his deathbed.

At that point, Mitch Albom could take a one-way trip to hell. He can meet five people there to do another book.

Then he fabricated a column. Ignorance and arrogance combined make for a nasty little package, especially noting how much of the public he has completely snowed over.

Of all the forms of cliched columnizing known to man, the "enemy team home town sucks" column has always struck me as both the stupidest and most malicious.
Call me sappy. Everywhere I go, I find people and things to like, even in places I wouldn't live for a second.

I agree 100 percent, except I don't know how the Dutch can stand the Netherlands.

This was much better than Jason Whitlock's "this is what Barack Obama should've said" voice.

My first impression was that Albom did this nonsense column only so he could whip out the "I become The Hoarse Whisperer" line.
