They can name A-Rod, Jeter, and A-Rod and Jeter's non-existent love child as steroid users and IT WILL NOT MATTER.

As of January '07, the NFL had suspended 35 players for steroids violations. Name them.

Specifically, ESPN is reporting that Clemens' former trainer obtained steroids.

If there are future Hall of Famers there, it will convince me that this is nothing more than Bud Selig's attempt to distract everyone from the fact that he turned a blind eye to steroid use when it exploded in the late-90s.

Without steroids, baseball never recovers after 1994. And Selig is the man who killed the sport. With steroids, baseball recovers, the great home run chase(s) begin, and 1994 is largely forgotten.

Now, he can get the media to keep these guys out of the Hall, because he doesn't want steroid cheats in his precious shrine.

Just heard a radio report that Clemens will be on the list. A former Yankee trainer supposedly admitted giving Clemens steroids.

    Sorry, no link yet.

Edit: ondeadline beat me to it.

The two names that will give this true shock value are A Rod and Pujols. Otherwise, I think the public will sort of nod their heads and flip the page.

And to that end, I believe the media sees this as a much bigger than the general sports fan does. The casual baseball fan has heard all this before, for years now, and I really think they are way, way less interested in who does steriods than in whether their team wins or loses, regardless of what it takes to do that.

Considering that Giambi is the only active player who had to cooperate, I wonder what the reaction will be if there are five or six Yankees on the list. Could be a frosty season in the Bronx for Giambino.

Pujols is connected to the former Orioles trainer. If he's not named, I have serious doubts about the report.

Hilarious. If the report doesn't name who I think was doing steroids, then it's a farce!

Shaun Assael sez: report will state that Brian MacName (sp?), Clemens and Pettite's trainer, gave Clemens steroids on several occasions, both while he was with the Yankees and before, and that he also got steroids from another source.

Report: Grimsley said ace used drugs

By Lance Pugmire and Tim Brown, Los Angeles Times | October 1, 2006

Roger Clemens, 44, one of professional baseball's most durable and successful pitchers, is among six players allegedly linked to performance-enhancing drugs by a former teammate, the Los Angeles Times has learned. The names had been blacked out in an affidavit filed in federal court.

Others whose identities had been concealed include Clemens's fellow Houston Astros pitcher Andy Pettitte and former American League MVP Miguel Tejada of the Baltimore Orioles.

The discovery ends four months of speculation surrounding the possible identities of Major League Baseball figures whose names were redacted from the search warrant affidavit filed in Phoenix May 31. The document was based on statements made to federal agents by pitcher Jason Grimsley.

Grimsley, a journeyman relief pitcher who has played on several teams, including the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and the Angels, acknowledged using steroids, amphetamines, and other drugs, investigators said in the document. He also implicated a number of former teammates, but the names were blacked out in copies of the affidavit made public in June after investigators used the warrant to raid Grimsley's house.
