I'm late to the party. Has anyone dropped the Jason Tyner joke yet?

Here is my first journalistic querey of the day:

If you're Tom Verducci, a writer I hold in the highest regard, how do you feel about Clemens getting named? Especially considering you wrote an 3,000 word story on his workout routine, and even though you've been one of the guys out front on much of the steroid investigation (and one of Bonds bigger critics) you've written some glowing words about Clemens in the last five years without much steroid talk? (Clemens even wrote the introduction to Verducci's "Best of" collection this year.)

Personally, I'd be a little bit angry/embarassed. I don't blame Tom at all, I just think he kind of treated Clemens with kid gloves while hammering on a few other players because he and Clemens obviously had a good relationship.

The media had a role in the steroids era.

How many journalists spoke among each other about the increasing size of players like McGwire, Sosa, Gonzalez, etc and wrote nothing? Verducci isn't alone.

I wish Boom was around, because he's been talking about this forever...how Verducci wrote this great love letter without examining the controversy around McNamee. He's been posting here forever that McNamee would end up in the middle of this.

I'd think you'd have to be more embarrassed than angry...there was plenty of subsequent information on McNamee that could/should have been addressed.

Obviously he's not alone. That should go without saying.

I'm asking if he, personally, feels duped by Mr. Clemens, someone he obviously had an excellent relationship with, and wrote glowing prose about is workout routine (the two ran through the streets of NYC like Rocky and Apollo, IIRC.) Verducci was one of the few journalists willing to push forward and write about this stuff when most people were not. He was the one who convinced Camanitti to talk, which I would argue, moved a lot of this stuff forward. Caminitti had never tested positive and wasn't under indictment. I'm just wondering if he feels like Clemens completely lied to him. Tom has written some pretty passionate stuff about what a phony Bonds was/is, but then he turns around a year ago and lets Clemens write the foreword to his book. I'm just wondering what's going on inside his head today, because frankly, he's one of my journalistic heros.

TBL, you chose to bold face Johnny Damon and not Pujols?

    Seriously?

It's funny you mentioned that, Double Down. That article was one of the first things that popped into my head this morning when I saw the reports about Clemens.

    It was a memorable article.

Carl Everett surprises me, just because he always seems to be out of shape.

    Nomar surprises me, too.
