I would put the over/under at 35% on the number of players using performance drugs in MLB right now and what was named in this list.

Re: The Running Mitchell Report Thread (Accurate players list on pg. 19)

Hello Everyone, I have not, and can not read through the whole thread, so hopefully this has been mentioned a few times...

Much of the talk I am hearing and reading is centering on determining "guilt" or "innocence" by if players are on this list or not. Mitchell warned against this and for good reason.
We cant assume if someone did not make the list, they have never done it.

This is not a complete list, for many reasons. For one thing, maybe McGuire wasnt stupid enough to write a check with his name on it?? From what I know, many of the people were named because of the proof of purchase. Unless there was a paper trail, it would be hard to put people on the list, I would think.
Also, this is only a few of the "trainers" employed by teams and players as far as I know. I have only heard the name of Curt Rodansky, so I would guess that maybe the thing these names have in common is him. If others gave evidence, then it would have been a whole different list, I would guess.

So I am just saying, lets stop talking as if , if they did not make the list, they are not guilty. this is not the ultimate all time list.

For those on the list, if there is a paper trail, then I lean towards their guilt.

But we have to stop saying "I am surprised so and so did not make it" because just because they did not make the list, that means nothing.

    sorry to ramble

I read that, too. But it's also one of the parts that shows how shady some of this is.

What evidence is there against Roberts? Heresay from Larry Bigbie and his refusal to talk to Mitchell and his crew. Never mind that almost every active player in baseball refused to talk to Mitchell.

Ragu brings up the real heart of the darkness here.

This investigation was commissioned by Selig almost solely to keep Congress from launching one of its own.

    So.

Will the Mitchell Report keep Congress at bay?

Or - in its limitations and conflicts of interest, and thanks to the utter lack of cooperation from all parties concerned - does it simply embolden Congress to bring subpoena power to bear on the sport?

I mostly just found it humerous. I actually think Roberts has the best case of just about anyone in the report for being clean. Bigbie never saw him do steroids, he didn't buy them when he had the opportunity, and the only evidence they have on him is Bigbie's word that Roberts told him he did it "two or three times."

If I were Roberts, I'd call Bigbie a liar and deny the whole thing.

Agreed, but his name is on the list and for a lot of people that is all that is ever going to matter.

I think having Mitchell's name on it is enough to keep Congress at bay.

Another triumph for the status quo.

Yup. Whole thing is a dog and pony show.

But, as you alluded to, that's what it was designed to be. Congress doesn't really want to hold hearings, and it surely doesn't really want to revoke baseball's anti-trust exemption, so...

Henry Waxman will say fuck you to George Mitchell while wearing a tutu, if it gets him extended camera time.

Love it when I can put 2+2 together.

Last week, the Cardinals picked up a guy in the Rule 5 draft, and part of the summary I read of the guy said that teams were "scared off" of him out of college because he majored in aerospace engineering — essentially, his intelligence frightened them.

Today, I scan the Mitchell Report and see that some of these dumbasses aren't just buying drugs illegally — they're doing it with a fuckin' check.

The next time I hear baseball referred to as a "thinking man's game," I'm going to punch a hole in a cow.

Peter Gammons is on ESPN. He is pissed at how vague the report is in some parts.
