Re: Mitchell Report Thread (You say hearsay, I say Brian Roberts)

I'm wondering whether it might make a statement if all the country's 12-year-old boys gather their Roger Clemens cards and mail them back to him with a note of disgust.

    Boom --
    Stop it.
Chose not to deal with it?
    How?
Please explain how you would have dealt with it.

In other news, Pot calls Kettle black.

Eddie Munster has decided to chime in.

What does Jay Mariotti have to do with this?

Rose always struck me as a displaced Munster.

See, they're all related! Although I will say here, Pete's looking a little more like Grandpa.

Not sure if it was posted elsewhere on our 134 Mitchell threads, but I loved Norman Chad's column today...he said (paraphrasing) if the Daily Racing Form can list horses on Lasix, why can't baseball lineups list the guys on 'roids?

At the tail end of his playing/managing career, Pete Rose lived for almost two years with Tommy Gioisia, a weightlifting freak and bodybuilding-club operator who, shortly thereafter, was convicted and went to jail for trafficking in steroids. Rose was a frequent visitor to Gioisia's gym.

One of the primary functions of steroids is to allow old, washed-up athletes to maintain a condition adequate to play major-league sports, for such objectives as chasing legendary career records. (Although having a manager who will put you in the lineup no matter what certainly helps in that respect, too.)

Fun Fact: In 2006, Pete Rose Jr. also pled guilty to trafficking in steroids.

One of the things that amused me about the Mitchell report was that it didn't even go back and ask questions about this relationship.

Yep. We need to check into that. Ron Oester had one dinger the year Rose arrived back in Cinci. A year later, he hit eight homers and had a career-high nine steals. I have always suspected the second baseman was on the juice. I was shocked to see that her wasn't mentioned in the report. For what it's worth, Rose hit only two homers in his final two years in Cincinnati. That was in about 650 ABs. Perhaps he was juicing, but he certainly didn't gain any power from it.
