If money were no issue at all, Starman, they'd have Scherzer signed. But they're going to let him walk. Clearly they are working with a budget even if you and I don't think they need to be.

I also don't understand that decision by the Tigers. Maybe this coming offseason, before his walk year, you do sign him to an extension. What was the point? To do something big after negotiations fell apart with Scherzer?

You also need to factor into the equation that the market is going to continue exploding in the next few years with the RSN deals.

Good point, but I would still think waiting a year to see if he breaks down again as he did at the end of 2013 would be a far more sensible approach.

Miguel Cabrera is highly respected/appreciated, but officials with other teams are appalled by Detroit decision to give him that many years.

Haven't heard as much disgust over a contract from rival execs since the Jayson Werth contract. Industry is in shock over the Cabrera deal.

Well, no shocker there. Anonymous team officials always tell Buster that other team officials are insanely driving the market up then they usually do exactly the same thing when it's their turn.

I sincerely hope his sources were officials from the Angels and Dodgers.

The Yankees can shit money out the window by the boatload and Buster never has any problem with that. When anybody ELSE starts spending, all of a sudden he gets very very concerned.

If Miggy gets close to $300 million for ten years, how much would Trout get for the same length of a deal? $400 million? $500 million? More?

    Oh, and the Mets, too.

It's subscriber-only, but Keith Law calls the Cabrera deal a "disaster":
