Another Javier Baez story: At a scouting showcase for top Floriday HS talents, each player was supposed to introduce his name and high school. He announced himself as "Javier Baez, Major League Baseball University."

I love him already. Was hoping tonight's game would be on WGN so I could watch, but it's on CSN. The Thursday afternoon game is on WGN, though.

Andrew McCutchen has a broken rib, not an oblique strain, according to the Tribune Review's Travis Sawchick:

And this means the injury was almost certainly caused by the plunking against the D'backs.

A few suspensions are in order.
The beaning was both gutless and guileless.

I don't think "guileless" means what you think it means.

    No, it was correct.
They threw at him first and missed.
Then they tried to hit him with a breaking ball.
Then they just fucking drill the guy in the small of the back, being so inept at what they want to do.
    Diamondbacks are a clown show.

No DL listing as I type this, but I imagine he'll be scratched from the lineup for a day or two. Terrible timing, with the Pirates being a mere half game behind division rival Cardinals for the second Wild Card. Fortunately, Josh Harrison has provided substantial depth to the Pittsburgh outfield. Should McCutchen be placed on the 15-day DL, Pittsburgh's chances aren't necessarily shot.

I'm not 100 percent on this, but I think that as far as comeback time goes, a broken rib may be better than an oblique pull.

Howard, Utley, Rollins will set record tonight with 887th start together at 1B, 2B, SS.

Garvey, Lopes, Russell had the record.

For those interested, Price is about to make his Tigers debut on MLB Network.

That's actually surprising, considering how much Howard and Utley have been hurt the last few years.

Did you watch the last chat with Vasgerisan, Smoltz and Plesac in wake of Kershaw-Trout and Pedro-Griffey? Plesac talked about his most memorable battle (Reggie, who was 0 for 6 with 4 strikeouts) while Smoltz said his matchup with Bo in the ASG was his most memorable, especially because Bo beat out what should've been an inning-ending 6-4-3. Nice little segment. Vasgersian is a strong facilitator.
