Nelson Cruz has been worth -0.5 WAR since the start of June.

Just now received follow-up text from trainer saying McCutchen injury probably NOT from HBP. Injury is ligament or tendon pulling from bone.

Possible though that he pulled the ligament/tendon twisting his torso to avoid the pitch?

Based on the replays I saw, it seemed pretty clear when the injury occurred, and it was a game or two after getting hit. He was wincing right away on the play.

If this is the final straw in getting Kirk Gibson fired, I'm all for it. The game is better without buffoons like him.

I think we can expect a lot of the D-Backs to bulk up over the winter too…

He almost hopped directly behind McCutchen to give the target. Like to hear the explanation if anyone in MLB offices asks.

Sunday's game against the D'Backs. Reached way out to pull an outside pitch to left and pulled up lame pretty quickly on the way to first.

Maybe he broke a rib Friday night, played without pain Saturday and finally felt it on that particular play on Sunday. It's possible.

More likely is the explanation given by the trainer that a tendon or muscle pulled away from the bone on that awkward swing. Occam's Razor and all that.

Not sure why it is more likely that the plunking had nothing to do with it. Definitely not buying the information coming from the team. I think we both know pro teams are very capable of lying about injuries.

    Javier Baez MLB debut.

Strikeout, groundout, strikeout, lineout (pretty well hit, tbh), strikeout

Then in the 11th, he boots a ground ball (ruled a hit, but looked awfully error-y to me) to help the Rockies tie the game

Then in the 12th, he hits the game-winning HR. 414 feet the opposite way, and he got under it.

I love this kid so much. He's either awful or amazing at everything, nothing is average.
