Isn't Jonathan Broxton about ready for seventh-, sixth-, maybe second-inning roles?

He's ready for the buffet and the Can-Am League probably.

The Astros, showing a commitment to excellence, fire the manager of their AAAA team.

Bo Porter had no chance. But, I'd hire him. Don't equate a lack of wins to no hustle, skip. They always seemed to have a good game when I watched them.

    Last year: 51-111

    This year: 59-79

You know who isn't in last place in the AL West? The Astros. Know who are? The Rangers (53-83).

Did Porter get fired for winning too many games?

Phillies need three outs from Papelbon to finish a combined no-hitter of the Braves.

Hamels went six, threw 108 pitches.

He also walked five and struck out seven, which suggests where the high pitch count came from. The Phillies' three pitchers so far have combined for 12 strikeouts, including Giles striking out the side in the eighth.

They did Porter a favor. There are even more storm clouds over that team, implausibly.

The Astros shut down my red-hot surging Jays, who came into Houston at the end of July having won eight of nine over Boston and the Yankees. Astros lost the opener and then won the next three by a combined score of 17-4. Don't think the Jays ever recovered from that, Astros looked like a team that could throw a scare into anyone.

Miguel Cabrera has two home runs today. His last home run was Aug. 2 and he only had three since the All-Star break.
