But hey, if you want to keep dragging it up and filling up the thread with the same discussion over and over again, let's go. ;D

No, really, how do we know the baby isn't the product of artificial insemination, and that an anti-Semitic Cubs fan in the lab didn't crack the seal on Braun's vial and replace it with Anthony Rizzo love juice?

I guess we'll just have to live with the uncertainty.

I'll give you credit for at least not being lazy as you troll the running baseball thread.

No Ricky I didn't switch. It's called giving some more examples that would maybe help you understand. Here's what the point is: Langston had good stuff and had the potential to be as good as the guys on that list. I think we pretty much can agree he wasn't as good as those guys, although you can probably find some metrics where he is better than some. I remembered talking to a scout who said that Langston wasn't a guy who gave it all he could. (of course that can't be measured, we can't read his mind and his heart, so you can call it bs). Then 3OF said he knew that Dick Williams basically said the same thing about Langston. But that is all just bs from two macho know-nothing guys.

One of the best scenes ever was Buttermaker telling Stein to get hit by the pitch and Stein saying 'It hurts.'

With Williams, he wrote in his book a couple of things about those Mariners. One was that some of them were born-again Christians who weren't bothered by losing that much. The other, which he kinda indirectly cited Langston, was that pitchers would always want to come out of games instead of pitching through tough spots.

So what does that have to do with clutchness, which is what you started out talking about?

Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect inning for the D'backs last night in his first game since June 26, 2012. He had Tommy John surgery twice in the interim:

In every sport guys who are considered clutch come through under pressure. They are known as mentally tough. Again the point was that I remembered hearing how Langston was considered soft and too laid back. I know that luck is involved in being clutch, but there definitely is a difference in the mental makeup of players. So you disagree with Langston being soft and too laid back? Ok, maybe come back with an example of him throwing 120 pitches and winning when his team needed a win. Or maybe another manager saying how he never asks to come out. When managers say guys, like a Hershiser, are bulldogs and never want to come out of the game do you tell them it's just bs?

Mark Langston had 81 career complete games in 428 starts.

Orel Hershiser had 68 career complete games in 466 starts.

    Might be bs.

Number of pitches make a difference.
