Plus who ***wanted*** to finish the game is way more important than who actually did.

Nope all guys always want to finish and have the same ability to pitch through pain. Dick Williams and scouts know nothing.

They know nothing about some things.

They might be right. Just as Will Clark might have been right and that Padres bat boy was a faggot because he wore an earring. We should definitely listen to Men Who Know The Game.

Langston had wipeout stuff- should have had a better career.
He also seemed to come up small when the spotlight was on him.

    Think that's called fag-shaming.

I'm having a hard time with the idea that someone who pitched more than 200 innings in 10 of his 17 MLB seasons somehow wasn't competitive enough to pitch through tight situations.

Well, I am thinking of the one-game playoff in Seattle and an appearance in the World Series.
Also being a missing piece for the Expos, who traded Randy Johnson to land him.
Dick Williams knew how to get guys to play, so I'll take his word for it.

Actually, I remember that one-game playoff, though it's been several years. Langston didn't have his best stuff, but I recall him coming through with some of the guttiest pitching I've ever seen that day, constantly pitching out of trouble and keeping the Angels in the game until a crappy little ground ball down the line got under the first baseman's glove and turned into a Little League "grand slam."

Plus, you would have to be Superman to match Randy Johnson's performance that day.

I wasn't saying anything about Jeter.

    So noted.
I was just watching MLB's Seasons a few weeks ago and the play-in was covered in detail.
That was a terrible play to break open what had been a tense game. Johnson was going on three days' rest.

Unpossible! They have MVP Lucroy catching for them and no Carlos Gomez to muck things up for at least another week!

    :)
