The Tigers have two walk-off wins to open a season for the first time since 1901, which was the first two games in franchise history.

Francesa and Boomer & Carton went off on Daniel Murphy of the Mets for missing time for the birth of his child:

Francesa is unbelievable. I haven't listened to him in a long time, but wow. You want to talk "old man rants", he puts anything Muschnick can muster look like child's play.

    From the Daily News story:

Francesa — known to take whole summers off — became even more wound up when he found out his own workplace, WFAN, allows new dads to take 10 days off for paternity leave, calling it a “scam,” and a “gimmick.”

“That's ridiculous, what the heck do you need 10 days for? What are you supposed to be doing, vacationing?” Francesa asked mockingly.

He says he was back at work the day his son was born. My guess is that's because his wife didn't want to hear him any more than the rest of us did.

The rest of the country didn't ask for these bloviating idiots. Our towns have our own bloviating idiots. Why do I have to have New York's as well?

Not to mention the stupidity of putting anybody through surgery that is not necessary.

I listen to both shows regularly, though I didn't hear yesterday's stuff about Murphy. But, yeah, Francesa takes most of the summer off every year, plus quite a bit of time around the holidays, so it's a little ridiculous to see him complain that anybody take a few days to be with their newborn.

Francesca also blows up and cuts off any caller who jokes bout how much time he takes off.

Sheesh, between these guys, the dumb Cleveland media exec who suggested spouses should proofread their significant others' copy before posting it on the web and the Texas AD who jumped his contract for double the pay and yet said football players shouldn't complain about not getting paid, there's been an awful lot of stupid being said the past two days.

Don't forget about Andrew Wiggins lamenting how fast college goes by, and wishing he had more time to enjoy it.

This so much depends on where you are, it's not even funny. If you think you might want MLB.tv, first look and see what teams are blacked out. Where I am, we won't get the Pirates, Phillies, Orioles and Nationals. And the Nationals -- that's just obscene. We don't get MASN, and they're an entire fan base away from us.

They're all getting killed on Yahoo! comments.

First off, they're idiots in general. We're all in agreement on that.

Second, I think Murphy made a good, man's decision.

Third, people who equate this with him choosing between being with the mother and newborn, and going out for drinks with his pals -- and that's the tone a lot of the outrage is taking -- well, they're idiots too.

The man works for a living, in a very public job. The money he is making will most probably make his newborn child's life very comfortable. But these super-parents think when he goes back to work, it's just going to be to have a good time playin' ball.

So let me get this straight on the Daniel Murphy thing: The guy misses a couple of games because his wife gives birth. From what I've read, absolutely nobody -- not the manager, teammates or even the guys who sign his check -- has a problem with it. Yet, it's a story because a few chucklebutts who happen to host sports-talk radio complain about it.

That, in a nutshell, is how far US media has fallen.
