Well, that seems a bit unkind, but I'm assuming that response was not about this thread.

May we resume the discussion here, Caesar?
In terms of full corpus, Hernandez is a more accomplished pitcher.
You-know-who likes to strip meaning from words until they signify nothing. That's his trollery.

I think Kersahw is currently the best pitcher in baseball. Love Felix's 40 or so more innings, though.

I didn't think the Lincecum comparison was a good one. He's not even eligible yet, and he's having terrible seasons.

I assume we are still talking about the claim that Felix Hernandez is the best pitcher in baseball, even over Clayton Kershaw.

I guess there is an argument to be made that he is more accomplished, simply based on longevity. Kershaw does have two Cy Young Awards and he is about to add his third. Hernandez is likely to add his second.

Kershaw has a 2.48 career ERA. Hernandez is at 3.10. Both play in pitcher's parks. I don't think being in the tougher league accounts for that much of a gap. Hernandez does have nearly 100 more career starts and 26 more victories.

But the statement wasn't most accomplished pitcher in baseball. It was best pitcher in baseball, and right now that is Kershaw. The gap between Kershaw and Hernandez is not as wide this season as it had been the previous three, but it does still exist.

You raise a good point with the innings pitched. I wouldn't gauge best pitcher in baseball just on the current season, but you could make an argument for Hernandez for only this year just because he pitched a lot more than Kershaw. I don't agree, but I can see the point.

Because idiots vote on the Hall, my concern for Felix is that he puts up excellent peripherals and counting stats (3,500 K) but ends up with a rather dour won-lost record.

Because it looked like the team with the 2nd-best record in baseball might have to play a play-in game against some 87-win team.

Tim Hudson, then. Sweep them both into the Imaginary Hit-By-Bus Hall of Fame.

I don't think Lincecum sniffs Cooperstown.

That's my point. Useless to project.

Hudson has a nice case, but it's not the same as Felix. It's Mark Buehrle-plus.
