Cool stat I just heard ...

Tim Hudson started both tonight and the 18-inning NLDS game between the Braves and Astros in 2005.

Reminds me of the 2004 LCS round, when the Yankees and Red Sox played those two extra inning classics in Games 4 and 5.
Game 4 finally ended, and Fox switched over to the Astros-Cardinals game just in time to catch the ninth inning. Game 5, same deal, except it was just in time to see Jeff Kent hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth. Kent might have been rounding the bases when they flipped over, IIRC.

By the time the Nats-Giants game ended, Cards-Dodgers was already in the 7th inning. Nats-Giants had a 4-hour head start.

All things considered, Williams was embarrassingly outmanaged.

Perhaps but he may have been thinking about the night before when Kershaw was left in for a few batters too many.

Up 6-2 one moment, down 10-6 the next.

Different situations. First-pitch temp was 98 for STL-LAD.
Fuck the Giants but they are a seasoned and dangerous playoff team, which the Gnats are not until they prove otherwise

It was also different because Mattingly was eventually going to have to use his bullpen no matter what. But Zimmerman just needed one more batter.

That the Giants have a guy who can essentially give them a "start" beginning in the 12th inning, and it barely affects their plans for Game 3 and 4, is a testament to the whole organization knowing what it's doing. No other team in the playoffs has that kind of depth.

The Nationals turned the ball over to Tanner Roark, who was 15-11 with a 2.85 ERA in 31 starts this season. Petit came through with an amazing effort last night, but really, which guy would an objective observer have wanted on the mound going into that game?

Petit was throwing smoke in late extras. I would take him.

He didn't retire 45 straight hitters with smoke and mirrors.

I didn't say that. In fact, I said nothing negative about Petit at all. Just saying that Roark was better all season, so the Nationals have every bit the pitching depth the Giants do.
