Was thinking they'd at least give their garbage relievers a chance to blow it.

In 36 postseason innings, Giants have allowed three runs. I think all their pitchers can take a bow right now.

Getting real in Detroit right now...

Look at Petit's year. He starts, he relieves, he starts, he relieves. He has a different training regimen than the other starters, throwing long-toss every day. When Cain got scratched an hour before a start earlier this season, they gave Petit the ball -- too late to even go over scouting reports with the catcher -- and he went six innings.

Six times this year he came on in relief and threw at least three innings. His totals this season were 39 games, 12 games started, 14 games finished. (Only one of those was a complete game.)

He absolutely and without a doubt has been groomed for this role.

Fuck. Showalter took a big risk, and it worked out perfectly.

Guy may have a point there, but I haven't watched the Giants enough to know if there was some masterful intent behind Petit's role or if he is correct in saying that is simply what any team does with a swing man.

But he is absolutely right in discussing the depth of the two pitching staffs in that series.

Showalter played Ausmus like a harp, putting the game in that scrub's hands after he had five ABs all year.

Cruz was 6 for 12 with two HRs and five RBIs in the series.

So in nine career playoff games against Detroit, he is hitting .412 with eight home runs and 18 RBIs.

I was going to question this based on what I remember of 1985 with Darryl Motley's home run.

    But I think you're right.

C.J. Wilson can't get three outs for the second start in a row.

However, the Angels have been pretty successful in several bullpen games the past month.
