It means not making errors, issuing walks and giving away runs.

It is the biggest factor in both LCS matchups right now.

The idea being that runs are harder to come by because less of them are scored?

Yep, particularly in the later innings.

How many times do you see a go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the be-all, end-all of a regular-season game?

That happens a lot, actually. All the teams have designated setup men and closers.

Yeah but there will be days during the season when someone is unavailable because of workload, for instance. Or you leave the starter out there to maybe work through some trouble in the sixth.

    Doesn't happen in the playoffs.

Anyway there's an overall attitude, whether with pinch-hitting or bunting or strategy, that every run is gold in the postseason. More than in the playoffs, at least.

Last week, Royals players invited fans out for a drink and picked up the $15,000 tab.

This week, Paul Rudd says everybody come to his mom's house. "She's out of town, I've got a keg. It's going to be sweet," Rudd joked. "Five dollar cover!"

Billy Beane wonders why everyone doubted him before.

Because variance and random chance are very unsatisfying narratives. As bad a hitter as Moustakas was this year, he didn't bat .000. As good as the Orioles were, they didn't win every game.

It's not enough to say the Royals are a good team having a great couple of weeks. There must be something deeper, a developing trend that they're changing the way the game is played.

Hell of a story. Had cancer while he was in the Pirates' chain in the late '80s; I believe it's been in remission since.

Good-field, no-hit catcher. He was 1-for-1 in his major-league career.

EDIT: The cancer was discovered when he was a high school junior. He then suffered a broken neck from a home-plate collision in junior college that left him paralyzed for 10 days.

I don't know that seems so sacrilegious.

So much fun in those bleachers, even if some of it was dodging airborne Old Style missiles wearing my Cardinal red.

Saw many games there from the bleachers, also wearing my Cardinals red. Old Style sucks.
