I posted this question to someone the other day, when MLB Network was nattering on and on about how Matt Carpenter was going to use this postseason as his launching pad to superstardom:

Is there a single instance in which a player, even a solid player like Gordon, has excelled in a postseason, then gone on the subsequent years to suddenly raise his regular-season performance?

As an aside, Miggy landed himself a big fat car commercial. He doesn't say a word, thus protecting a certain kind of image.

But I don't remember many non-American superstar athletes hawking merch in commercials. Who's the last?
