    Quote from Carlos Gomez afterward:

"You want to do something? Strike me out and enjoy it. I'm not going to be pissed off for you to strike me out."

OK, well, he might be a little pissed off. He's Carlos Gomez.

3 weeks into the season and Chris Davis and Cano each have 1 homer and 8 RBIs.

Stanton meanwhile has 6 and 26 with 9 days to go in the month.

So this was the cover of the Nationals' handout program on Saturday, the day Bryce Harper was benched for, um, not hustling:

And Miguel Cabrera has one home run and seven RBI. It's not hard to find odd stat lines this early in the season. The fun part is picking out which are trends and which are just hot streaks or slumps that seem like a bigger deal because the sample size is so small.

I think the part that makes you wonder about Cano is the transition from Yankee Stadium to Safeco. I think ultimately he'll be fine, but I can understand if fans are concerned.

I'm sure it will cost Cano a few home runs, but I don't see any reason why Cano's numbers should drop by much. Maybe pressure from the contract.

I'd be more concerned about Davis. He'll hit his home runs. He has tremendous power. Making enough contact has always been the issue with him. I think some of last year's gains were real, but he is far from a sure thing to repeat. He didn't even keep it up for a full season. He was batting .315 with 37 home runs at the All-Star break last season. He batted .245 with 16 home runs the rest of the way, which is closer to his career norms.

Cabrera, I just wonder if he's healthy after the various injuries that ruined his September last season and offseason surgery.

Cole said he was mad because Gomez watched a hit that did not go out of the park. I guess I didn't know this "unwritten rule" but perhaps young Mr Cole should have a talk with his own team. The video is from earlier in the series and the pitcher was a 21 year old Rule 5 guy that the Brewers are trying to keep on the roster.

If this was the first time Gomez had run afoul of an opponent, I'd hang all this on Cole. But Gomez has a history of being a horse's ass, so I'll at least direct SOME blame his way in this case.

More than some. Cole shouldn't be running his mouth just because Gomez watched the ball too long, but no way should a veteran player like Gomez be losing his temper and causing a physical confrontation like that.
