Former Senators pitcher Connie Marrero, oldest living former MLB player, dead at 102:

The Cubs celebrating 100 years of mediocrity today by wearing throwback Chicago Federals jerseys and blowing a three-run lead in the ninth inning.
Arizona scored two runs on a single up the middle where:
    A) The pitcher just missed knocking it down as it came back through the box
    And
    B) The ball hit the second base bag and kicked off into right field, allowing an extra run to score.
Arizona then scored the go-ahead runs on a slicing pop fly triple down the right field line. The Cubs right fielder not only couldn't get to the ball, he pulled a hamstring in the attempt and had to be carried off the field.

That is so Cubs. I'm not sure anyone could've scripted a more fitting tribute to 100 years of Wrigley Field.

Samardzija has allowed six runs in 35.1 innings (for a 1.53 ERA) and is 0-2 with four no-decisions.

@baseball_ref: Jeff Samardzija is the only pitcher in the last 100 yrs to go 7+ IP and allow 2 ER or fewer in his 1st 5 GS of a season and not earn a win

Pineda just got ejected in the 2nd inning for having pine tar on his neck.

More proof that many ballplayers are just fucking morons.

So naturally SuperManagerMike after the game makes a point of saying Frieri is still his closer.

    Cool map and story, YF.

I was happy to see my former suburban stomping grounds (Westmont, Ill., in southeast DuPage County) leans White Sox these days.

Also found it funny that my current region (the Pacific Northwest) has sizable Red Sox and Yankee fan contingents, with those two teams rising to the top, above the Mariners, once you get into Montana or parts of southern Idaho.

    It's all ESPN's fault ... ;)
