Funny enough, the only time I've ever met Bob Costas was in a the men's room at old Busch Stadium; it was about 20 minutes after he had berated an elderly, retired TSN editor who was working as the official scorer at the game. The guy clearly blew a ruling, and Costas lit into him again while we were all in the men's room.

I've loathed the little fucker ever since.

    Since June 1: 14-4, 1.52 ERA in 24 starts, 190 strikeouts and 45 walks in 160 innings.

Also, according to the Miami Herald: Fernandez has yet to allow as many as three runs in any of his 19 career home starts. If he does it again in his next scheduled start on Sunday, he’ll tie Orel Hershiser’s major-league mark of 20 consecutive home starts allowing fewer than three runs.

He credited catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia for calling a great game.

Didn't help that after a couple innings, they were playing that game in a downpour, Boom.

There were empty seats (not as many) behind the plate at Fenway last night too. Low 40s and drizzling. Just a horseshit night for baseball.

Tim Hudson did 8 2/3 innings in 89 pitches tonight and is way out ahead in the race for best free-agent signing.

    --2 years, $23 million

    --4-1, 2.17 ERA

--has gone at least seven innings in all six starts

--has walked two batters in 45 2/3 innings, which is a huge change for him as he has never been great in that category

--has at least a ghost of a chance at the "more wins than walks" rarity (last done by Bret Saberhagen in 1994)

--is averaging 12.46 pitches per inning, best in the majors by .74 pitches

"Tommy John is pissing, er, pitching in Appleton. Come to think of it, if he stays in Appleton long enough, he will do both."

Cathedral Of Learning is an impressive building at Pitt. Been cleaned up since then.

That is fantastic. Thanks for posting it.

A bit before my time. I really wish I had gotten to see the old place. Must be really odd for those old enough to have been in Forbes Field to go to the Oakland section of Pittsburgh now that it is long gone.
