Pretty sure we're past the date for pushing back free agency, unless he had a year of service time in the past.

Could still get the extra arbitration year.

Any organization that *doesn't* leave a guy down a few weeks at the beginning of the season to get the free year is idiotic. They all do it, and they all should do it.

The super-2 arbitration thing is a bit murkier, I guess.

The hell with taking advantage of a small window of opportunity to succeed, right? Better to be eternally rebuilding.

Right, because teams like Oakland proved all windows for small-market teams are small.

    Here are your choices:

5 extra months of a guy for the league minimum salary

    or

getting him three weeks earlier in the season.

Any general manager that doesn't choose the former deserves to be fired immediately for negligence.

So you throw away one season to help another. Yeah, sounds like a Cubs fan. :)

Did I say that? No. I said it is much more difficult. If you don't get that, you are beyond help.

Missing out on 3 weeks of one player = "throwing away a season."

Sounds like OOP not wanting to admit when he's wrong.

At the risk of upsetting oop regarding a game the Pirates won ... here is the highest-impact replay decision so far. Pittsburgh beats Giants on triple/error with two outs in ninth, after Marte is initially called out.

Ain't no fuckin' way that's conclusive evidence he beat the tag.

It is May 6. He still isn't up. He may not be for a while yet. Aside from being wrong in your opinion, you also don't have your facts right.

Of course, they needed an error to score even two runs in that game. :)
