True. But with the Marlins pitching (and Heaney coming up soon), I think they can stay there. On offense, it isn't as bad as it used to be. Stanton is still a nonhuman monster. But now Garrett Jones and Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich aren't black holes in that lineup.

You'd be surprised at how small a sample size a 162-game season is. Suppose a team at the 90-win quality level (i.e., a team that in the very long run would win 55.6% of its games) played an infinite number of 162-game seasons. This team would have a losing record (80 wins or fewer) in 8.75% of those seasons.

Reminds me of the Costner speech in Bull Durham about how many hits mean the difference between .250 and .300.

    I love nonhuman monsters.

I already conceded that Miami made some good D-list pickups. Saltalamacchia is probably a step above that group.

Nevertheless, are you seriously assuming Garrett Jones is going to keep this up all season?

Yu are flirting with perfection through five. Nine Ks.

That is a really shitty way to lose a perfect game. You might say the mistake Odor made stinks :)

And yet, they gave the error to Rios, which was ridiculous. Still a no-no through seven.

Yeah, I have no idea how that's the right fielder's fault. The only thing he did wrong was not call off the rookie second baseman who was backpedaling. It should've been Rios' ball, but it's not his error at all.

They say on NESN that if Yu gives up a hit, they'll probably make that a hit too. Sounds about right.

Wow. NESN has apparently lost a camera and audio feed with three outs left in a possible no-no.
