    1) Baserunner sliding into second base gets hit by shortstop making throw to first base. Should the baserunner be able to sue?

    2) Same baserunner sliding into second base again. Shortstop fires ball but this time it sails past and does not hit the baserunner.

As soon as ball is gone, shortstop dives on top of baserunner and bites off his ear. Should the baserunner be able to sue?

    Uh huh .... yeah.

And now they should kiss and make up.

ESPN's probably lining up the video shoot.

Potentially costly W for the Giants Wednesday night in Colo., with Matt Cain and Santiago Casilla getting injured. MRIs upcoming.

Giants announcer Mike Krukow is kinda sorta backing off it now, but the other day he brought up the idea of whether Tulowitzki is getting signals or other help on pitches in the home park. Six weeks of a .521 home BA (he is hitting .247 on the road) suggests something is fishy, anyway.

MLB Tonight did something about this a week or two ago. Perhaps there's a guy in a coat in the cheap seats ...

If it's any consolation to Bedard he's probably going to make the All-Star team since every other Ray is having such a shitty year.

    MLB leaders in run differential:

    1. Oakland +99
    2. Detroit +49

Of course this means the A's at 30-16 are underperforming their Pythagorean W-L :)

No offense intended, but there's one advanced stat I despise. If Oakland is 30-16, they earned a 30-16 record. A 1-0 win counts the same as 17-1.

It's not meant to dock teams from wins they earned, but to predict how likely they are to maintain their current pace, which I think it does pretty well.

Stephen Davis might give you a different perspective when he played with Washington.

What about Clemens vs. Piazza in the early 2000s? Clemens intentionally threw the ball at Pizza's head (although that would be hard to prove) after some previous confrontations. Would he be able to press charges?

My personal favorite was the Canadian Police opening a months-long investigation into Zdeno Chara for an on-ice hit that didn't include a stick. Just downright silly.

Maybe ridiculous was the wrong word to use, and yes, there is a line, but I don't think it was approached in this particular incident. Gun on the field, a la "The Last Boyscout," OK, there might be charges pressed there.
