Joe Gallagher looks like a guy who could have handled himself on the streets alone at age 3. No need to check that privilege.

Smoky Joe Wood, Cy Young, Lefty Grove and Walter Johnson at an Old-Timer's Game at Yale, where Wood was coach.

The four guys combined for 1,345 major-league victories and eight 30-win seasons.

There is a book out there about the '39 Yankees. Apparently, Gallagher had a fairly high opinion of himself, which was a no-no on the Yankees in those days. He didn't play that well and was sent down to the minors. Rather than accept his assignment, he said he would only go if he went to another minor league team closer to his home. The Yankees instead traded him to Siberia, er, the Browns, where he had a decent season, but that was it.

I read once that Capone and Bugs Moran frequently attended Cubs games, which was considered neutral territory. Supposedly once, Gabby Hartnett went over to say hello to Capone, a photog took their pic, and Landis threw a fit that a player was consorting with a mobster and fined Hartnett.

Silly Yankees. They weren't following The Narrative.

Maybe that's the photo, or there was another one. Because the article I had read was about the1930 season.
