Watching Dodgers-Padres from Monterrey, Mexico and it’s odd seeing a ballpark with a lot of space behind home plate and no ads on the outfield wall.

Right you are. As Crash Davis said, strikeouts are fascist. Almost every pitching coach in the world would rather see a batter retired on a one- or two-pitch at-bat than s five- or six-pitch strikeout. Yes, there are times you need a strikeout, but generally the result is the same. An out.

Did you stop following baseball in 2000?

Sure, a coach or manager would rather see every batter retired on one pitch rather than six, but ask them whether they'd rather see a strikeout or a ball in play and the calculus changes dramatically. And since balls put in play stand somewhere between a 1-in-4 to 1-in-3 chance of falling for a hit, they'll ALL take a K over a ball in play.

Call me when a pitcher comes along who can make 100% of his first-pitch contacts be outs.

Nothing going on in Mexico through six, but Walker Buehler is at 90+ pitches so it’s unlikely he’ll be back out.

EDIT: He is done for the night
