    I’m pretty sure he’s first guy ever to hit <.170 in each of any season’s first four months. (min 50 PA in each.)
    He is not about to turn the corner. This is who he is.

    Damn. Ray Oyler was hitting a respectable .220 in April of 1968 before the wheels fell off.

    For a World Series champion too, not the 1962 Mets or 1969 Pilots (I know he got benched in the Series. But he helped get them there).

    And they kept him on the roster in the Series. Got into four games with one PA.

    Bill Bergen in 1909. Hit .150 or less in first five months of the season, although he only had 31 plate appearances in April because they started the season on April 15 that year and usually in the middle of the month back then.

    Lifetime .170 average in 11 seasons. Must have been a great defensive catcher or had photos of his managers or owners in compromising situations.


    Also, his brother, who was a good catcher, ended up killing his wife and two kids with an ax, and then himself with with a razor.
