I'm pretty sure they were talking about more than a 19-at bat sample size.

 

At the time it was only 14 spring training at-bats IIRC.

 

It's not that. It's just that, believe it or not, the rest of the country has its own teams to follow.

 

Poin brings that up, too, and I don't understand what it has to do with the price of tea in China.

The scouts said that Ohtani is not ready to hit in the major leagues.

Poin declared that they have been "proven . . . spectacularly wrong."

They haven't.

 

I share Barry Bloom's concern with Ohtani's mechanics. I have SEEN him, after all.

 

That rivalry needs another Pedro v Zimmer. Or Sale needs to throw a broken bat at Aaron Judge. Gimme SOME reason to change the channel away from the Braves.

He’s not going to be ready as either a pitcher or hitter when the season starts.

There are a few snowflakes in the air at this moment outside my house, which is 10 airline miles from Fenway Park. I don't think this game will be memorable, but I'll bet there will be a lot of first pitch hacking.

 

You are quibbling with their methodology. But that doesn't mean that their conclusion is wrong.

Example:

Every time I eat a jelly donut, a Republican wins the presidential election. I hate a jelly donut this morning. My prediction is that Donald Trump is going to win the election.

Even if you prove that jelly donuts don't have anything to do with presidential elections, my prediction was still correct.
