It tells me nothing more about the player that batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage do not, for starters, and at the same time is highly susceptible to mislead, due to its dependence on: (1) other players' performances; and (2) fluctuations within small sample sizes (i.e. players do not have a propensity to hit better or worse over time in RBI situations than the do normally).

 

What am I looking for?

Interesting that that's the year they introduced SLG% to cards.

I think it reflect runs that are batted in.

 

I think it purports and/or captures the fact runner(s) scored thanks to the batter's contributions.
