Remember, the idiots didn't opine about whether he would be an all star, or a Hall of Famer - they opined that he was not a major league caliber player.

I don't consider myself to have a keen major league eye, but if you saw his 19 PA, and his two starts, including taking a perfect game into the 7th inning, and conclude that he was NOT major league caliber, then your baseball compass is broken. That is all there is to it.

They opined that he was not a major league caliber hitter now, but that he might be after 500 minor-league plate appearances.

Hey everyone, I was ready for the season! I had 3 homers and 5 RBIs and scored 4 runs!

But I'm regressing to what Baseball Prospectus said I'd do! I'm 5 for my last 34 with 16 strikeouts!

That doesn't mean he was "ready for the season." It means he had a good day. Bad players have good days sometimes. This one so happened to be on Opening Day.

Bad players have eight or nine good days in a row.

0.5 WAR as a hitter, and 0.6 WAR as a pitcher. And it's April 13.

Good call by the idiots to have him playing in Salt Lake City. They need promotions.

    I am not 100% sure, but I don't think he's had a hitless game as a starter.

Hello, LTL! My name is Chris Nelson. I had a career OPS of .699 and a career War of minus-1.8. I hit 16 home runs in five major league seasons.

All of that said, you can pry my September 10-16, 2012 National League Player of the Week Award from my cold dead hand.

    Hi Chris!

Did any scouts ever declare you a high school hitter and say that you were flat-out not ready for the major leagues? I'm going to assume the answer is no.

You would be correct in your assumption.

Pretty awesome for Matt Davidson and Chris Nelson to join the thread.
