I thought batters are overall better with runners on because pitchers are worse from the stretch, generally.

Dee Gordon is on second base. Your run probability for the rest of the inning is almost certainly higher with a .350 wOBA guy up than a .300 wOBA guy up.

This thread took a bad turn with Ohtani having an off day Saturday.

We will be up and running in a couple of hours.

I'll take my chances with a 110-RBI guy.

Whoa. So what you're saying is, the volume of runs someone scores is a function of their ability to get on and the hitting ability of those behind them? Very interesting.

And if that was the case, one might, MIGHT be able to extrapolate that someone's RBI totals could be somewhat dependent on how many baserunners they had on in front of them across the span of a season. That would be wild!

Here are two real guys from a real season:

    Player A: .295 wOBA. 115 RBIs
    Player B: .447 wOBA, 61 RBIs

    Who do you pick?

It’d be better if there were men on base.

YOU changed the discussion from those who bat runs in to those who score runs.

    Everything after that is moot.

You can play RBI-comparison game all you want.

If it's down to the final 2 guys, I'll take a guy with 54 more RBIs.

But a guy with a .447 wOBA isn't going to be one of the final 2 picks either.

You just chose Joe Carter over Rickey Henderson in 1990.
