"The bird" is having a good week.

So is it more painful to be an A's fan or an Angels fan? The A's are a glorified minor-league team who have no shot, the Angels have two of the greatest players of their generation with no shot. And oddly enough, the Angels have cheaper tickets than the A's do.

MLB trade deadline: Mariners acquire Luis Castillo from Reds for huge prospect haul

Done deal, and it was costly in terms of prospects. Noelvi Marte was Seattle's best prospect and one of the top 20 or so in baseball. Edwin Arroyo is a very good prospect, too.

Castillo has been excellent this season and he is signed through the end of 2023, so it's easy to see why he brought in a big haul.

I wonder if Tyler Mahle goes, too.

But apples to apples is what baseball is.

Newfangled or old-fashioned, stats are the apples. We've got 150 years of apples.

I don't think of Trout as a what-might-have-been injury story. Eric Davis? Pete Rieser? Sure. Mantle? Maybe. He's still Mickey Fucking Mantle™.

Because every great in the history of the game loses playing time to something. War. Injury. Religious conviction. Bourbon. Cocaine.

They still put up the apples.

Baseball is apples, all the way down.

    Not really.

Now Pete Reiser. That was a ball player.

Read he had no fear. Would run 100mph in concrete walls to at least try to catch a ball.

Anyone know if there is a good biography out there on Reiser? I’ve done a bit of research on him and heard about him in other books

i think Durocher said that Reiser was the closest thing to Willie Mays he ever seen.

Orioles are playing .667 baseball over their last 36 games (24-12). Series in Cincinnati this weekend, then at Texas for three and home for three vs. the Pirates. Need to win all three of those to keep the good vibes going because there aren't many breaks in the schedule after that. Baltimore still has 15 (!) games left against Toronto.
